Article 104 modifies another regulation (Regulation (EU) No 168/2013) by requiring that when new rules involving artificial intelligence (AI) systems designed for safety are made, they must follow specific guidelines laid out in Chapter III, Section 2, of Regulation (EU) 2024/1689, ensuring these AI systems meet necessary safety and performance standards.
This change is important because AI technology is increasingly used in safety-related components in various products, so consistent and clear safety standards help make sure these AI systems function properly and safely, protecting people and helping build public trust in products that rely on artificial intelligence systems.
Due to this amendment, the rules and conditions outlined in Regulation (EU) 2024/1689, specifically Chapter III, Section 2, will need to be considered carefully when creating new AI-based safety components, to ensure they comply with EU-wide safety requirements and standards established to guarantee reliability and security.
Manufacturers, developers, and businesses producing or using AI systems that act as safety components in their products, like vehicles, are primarily impacted, as they must now understand and comply with additional safety regulations and conditions defined by the EU to legally offer their products on the European market.
